For five years, Toyota Connected has been working on ideas that seem possible in the future.
But, as they work toward an improved future of mobility, they’ve dealt with real-world problems, too. Like the time rental car giant Avis came to them asking for a more accurate way to gauge how much fuel is left in a tank.
Normally, Avis could guess within three gallons. But Toyota Connected senior engineer Raja Shekar figured out how to get that number to plus or minus 0.3 gallons. It’s a game changer for the rental car industry.
Shekar and his team worked with Fred Mau, TMNA’s intellectual property counsel, to patent the idea. Then they sat down with us and explained in detail how an idea becomes a patent. For more, watch the video above.
